Oh what a week! What a weekend. How the scale must hate me now. We're not even on speaking terms. Avoiding each other at all costs (this could be one sided) I know we'll reconcile eventually but for now, I think it's best if we just stay out of each other's way.

Most of last week was spend on the road for work, although I did find time to catch up on your blogs in the evening, even if I didn't post, I'm still reading! This past weekend was a barrage of bad choices. Ugh. When will I learn? Friday Scott and I took a vacation day and headed out of town to get some Christmas shopping done. Oh how I hate the vacation AND out of town mentality. It took over at about 2:00pm when Scott and I split a pretzel from Pretzelmaker. I think my weekend can best be summed up in a GBU borrowed (stolen) from Marie.

Friday
The Good: We spent about 6-7 hours on our feet strolling through the mall, stores and shops. Hello activity!
The Bad: We ordered nachos and fajitas for supper from Lone Star.
The Ugly: 2 hours later we stopped at the Irving Big Stop for Cheesecake

Saturday
The Good: I started off the day with a great breakfast and walked around yet another craft fair for about 1.5 hours.
The Bad: There is always a fudge vendor at those stupid craft fairs.
The Ugly: Pizza was on the menu for supper and there may have been chocolate as well.

Sunday:
The Good: I ate on plan all day until.....supper
The Bad: We had company over and I made baked beans and brown bread. Except I forgot to put molasses in the brown bread (who forgets the molasses??) so it was really just white bread that tasted a little sweet.
The Ugly: Our company bought the most delicious apple pie I have ever tasted
The Really Ugly: They left it at our house instead of taking it home with them..... I had a second helping.

I feel like I just went to confessional.
Ok, that wasn't that bad was it? ok, it was. I know it. You know it. We all know it. What can I do about it now? Nothing. Except...I can follow Randi's advice and set myself a gym goal for this week to melt away those extra calories consumed over the weekend. I have put some thought into it and I think that 160 mins this week is a pretty fair number. What do you ladies think? That would bring me to 4 sessions of 40 mins. Maybe I should step it up a little though? Maybe 170 mins? Then 2 sessions, I could add 5- 10 mins of abs. Hmmm. Feedback please!

How did everyone's weekend go? How are the Holidays affecting your food plan? Or are they at all?

  1. hey girl! nachos & pizza...sounds good but yea, it might require some extra time in the gym. my goal this week is 4 days in the gym with a minimum of 30 mins - and maybe more. i don't like to set time limits, i like to feel it out once i get there but i usually go for about 45-60 mins.

i need to get started on my xmas shopping, i know what i need to get and i better get out there and grab it before its gone. hope you have a great week!!

  2. I'm terrified of the scale right now! I can't even bring myself to discuss the 'ugly' that happened this weekend!

Setting a gym goal is a great idea! I think 4, 40 min. sessions sounds great. Maybe add on a ten minute stretching session at the end of every workout; that'll give you another 40 minutes for the week without even really trying!

    Good luck!

  3. I read that by increasing every gym visit (and cardio mostly) by 10%, you can avoid gaining weight over the holidays... I think four 40 minute sessions sounds great!

  4. I like that goal. I'm not sure if I believe it, but I read somewhere that the first 30 minutes of cardio are burning your carbs and whatever you ate, then anything after that taps into your fat. (though of course, you'll still lose fat if you only do 20 minute sessions several times or if you just walk for 45 minutes you'll lose more weight if you do intervals for only 28 minutes or whatever.) so I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it always does make me want to just push a little more than the regular 30 minutes.

Just wait until you read about my weekend. Yours was nothing...

  6. I think we should just accept in our brains that we can have ALL of that stuff you had on the weekend as long as we BUST OUR ASSES at the gym to earn it. If we earn first and eat second, then we don't feel badly about having to cancel it out after that fact. You are definately right on...logging some serious gym time this week will be awesome and you and the scale will be amigos again :-)

  7. *laughs* sorry to laugh, but I have to agree with you, I broke up with my scale last week and refuse to get back together until he doesn't something nice for me!

I think it's a great idea to increase your cardio, it certainly won't cause any harm!!

  8. You Crack me up! My scale and I weren't on speaking terms after the holiday debacle known as thanksgiving, but I finally decided to try and make up for weigh in on Sunday, but regardless it was still pissed off at me, ugh.

The weekends are always hard, especially when your out of routine. I'm such a "routine" person.

Hang in there, your doing wonderful!

  9. I'm new to your blog and wanted to thank you for the inspiration! I just started keeping a food journal. Hopefully I can get myself to the gym soon.

  10. I gotta say, if you're going to go to the trouble of going to the gym, don't you want to go for longer than 40 minutes? I think the recommendation for fat loss is 60 minute sessions, 5 - 6 days per week.

You can do it! Think of how awesome you'll feel.

  11. Pick an amount of time that you're comfortable with but an amount that still challenges you. That's my advice. If 160 minutes is an amount you can reasonably accomplish but it's also an amount that's going to push you a bit, then I think it's a fantastic goal!

  12. The holidays are killing me. I don't want to admit my gain, but it's a serious gain. That is why I am making my butt go to the gym. Glad you are joining Kelly and I.

As far as the 40 mins, I think that's great. I usually try to do at least 30, and if I am feeling good or into it, I almost always end up doing 60. The key for me is to break it up on different machines, and then I make myself stay on them for 10-30 mins

  13. We all get a bit off track on the weekends, especially during the holidays! (I know I did!) I think you're on the right track with stepping up the exercise - try to get in one additional good session per week more than you normally aim for... That way you'll have at least burned some additional calories to compensate for the good stuff that's always tempting us this time of year. Ahem...Now I'd better take my own advice and get to the gym!

  14. sounds like you had great intentions...but it just didn't happen so well huh?

Seems like you are still struggling with not just eating everything in sight all weekend long like when you were doing SFL. What are you going to do get past it?

  15. The food sounds yummy, but I agree some extra gym time might be needed this week (don't worry I need it this week too!).

Don't be so hard on yourself though, we all have weekends like that from time to time. Just as long as it doesn't turn into an everday thing, you should be fine.

  16. Weekends are hard for me to and I use every excuse in the book. I think they key is to weigh yourself. That way, you can see the consequences (good or bad) of your actions. If you gain, you can take control of yourself and be more deligent about being OP.

  17. Aww sweetie, we all have our bad day(s), but I know you'll do great this week! Don't forget to add some weight training to your cardio routine. I'm sure you already know this, but building muscle helps jump start your metabolism. Then after awhile you can eat more and still lose weight, which is win-win in my book! Just think; only four weeks until the holiday season is over and then we can focus on normal life again. You are doing great--don't get down on yourself. Just pick yourself up by the boot straps and get your hiney to the gym :) Have a great week!
