Weigh In!!!!! 60.5 lbs GONE FORVER!!!

My Weigh in went FANTASTIC! I was kind of nervous this morning and my weigh in on Wednesday was not good at all (LAST time I EVER do that). I learned my lesson though. Weigh in day is Friday...period.

Down 1.4 lbs!!!!
Yay me! This is just what I needed this morning. A good weigh in can make your whole day...even week! So I was really glad because this will motivate me to do great over the weekend and into my Birthday! As an added kick I am finally over 60 lbs weight loss...I have been close for so long!! I also had a great workout last night. I did 40 mins of 5 min walking/5 min running intervals and it felt great! I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Today's Menu....
Breakfast:
1 1/4 cups of Multigrain Cheerios - 3
1/4 cup of skim milk - 0.5
Lunch:
Out for lunch at the Bigstop Irving (out of town for work so I am forced to eat out) BUT I know I am either going to have a wrap or a salad, or something else healthy :)
Supper:
Our ritual Friday night homemade pizza - 20 pts (I know...it's a lot but worth every single bite)
Total: So I am going to estimate my points today at about 30-32 but I will know more once lunch is out of the way. I'm saving myself for cake tomorrow!!!

The day before Friday...

This morning I am feeling more confident about tomorrow's battle with the scale. I feel like I am doing great regardless of what the scale says. Sometimes I think you just gotta throw the numbers out the window and judge your success by the way you feel, or the way your clothes fit. And as far as clothes go, I think I'm ready for the next size down at Suzy Shier....finally a single digit! I have been waiting for that damn size 9 now for months!! It's going to feel soo good on my next trip into Suzy. Last time I went shopping there I could squeeze into a 9 but they were tight and I ended up getting an 11 but now I think I'm ready for the 9 and just in time to buy some cute new capris!

Amber actually mentioned on her post that she finds that she does better with eating her full points. I have been noticing lately that I have been coming in a point or 2 or 3 under my daily point target...so I am going to try to pack some bigger lunches since I eat the majority of my points at supper and later. I might try to eat more at lunch and during the day and less at supper. Does this sound like it might work or am I insane?? :)

Tuesday is my birthday (which ALWAYS means birthday cake!!) The big 2-4! I haven't really made too many plans yet but of course you can't go by a birthday without birthday cake!! ( I know I'm having cake this weekend but it's not MY birthday cake) Birthday cake that has your name spelled on it should be 0 points!!! They should make that a WW policy.

I am actually pretty pumped though about tonight's workout. I am going to get in a good 45 mins of cardio (I'm going to give the running another try and see how my knee feels) My plan is to do 30 mins of walking/running intervals and 15 mins of the stepper. Then it's grocery night in the Enman house so that's another 1.5 hours of walking (even though it's not really exercise, I'm probably burning more at the market than at home on the couch right?)

Breakfast:
1.5 cups All Bran - 3
1/4 c. skim milk - 0.5
1 grannysmith apple - 1
1 multivitamin
(I have been taking a multivitamin every morning for about 7 or 8 months now but never think to mention it)

Lunch:
Ranch Chicken Wrap (whole wheat wrap with chicken, lettuce, small amount of cheese and light ranch dressing, bacon bits) - 8
1/2 can diet Pepsi
Total: 12.5

Supper:
Honey Mustard Chicken (1 small breast) - 4
Brown Rice made with Chicken broth instead of water (this was awesome!! I cooked it last night but when we got home from work, I threw it in the frying pan with broccoli, spinach, onions, garlic powder and a little soy sauce and it was soooo good!!) - 5

Total: 21.5
Points Target: 22
Flex points remaining: 35

Tomorrow I am going away for work (which means eating out for lunch) so wish me luck....I am going in KNOWING that I am going to make healthy choices so I feel good about it. Wish me luck on my weigh in!!!!! Good luck to all you Friday weighers!!!!

Scale mistake

So I got on the scale this morning....whatever possessed me to do this, I have NO idea and I'm really sorry I did. It showed that I was up 1.3 lbs!! YIKES!! What is THAT about? I didn't do so great on the weekend but I didn't really think I did that bad either. Point blank, I shouldn't have gotten on that damn thing until Friday. Why do I put myself through that? I hope I'm not hitting another plateau....I'm nervous now. It might be my scale too...that thing is never really sure what is going on. Well I'll just keep my fingers crossed for Friday, I still have 2 workouts before Friday and I also have 2 lunchtime power walks to get in before official weigh in. Never again am I getting on the thing unless it's Friday morning official weigh in.
I also wanted to say THANK YOU for all of you that come on my little blog here and leave inspiring comments for me! It's so awesome to have this much support. There are days when I contemplate BRIEFLY throwing in the towel but the support keeps me in the game.
I'm also considering doing Core for a few weeks and trying it out. I'm not really sure exactly what Core is but I've heard from many people that when they hit a plateau on Flex, they switch to Core. I have been thinking about it and really, I have only lost about 6 lbs since Christmas and before that I was on a major plateau for like 2 months! I know I have been weight training too and I have noticed that my body if starting to tone up but I really just want to get another 10 lbs off before the July hits (and before I jump into that BIKINI!) So ANY advice on Core would be SOO appreciated!!! May as well give it a try ...maybe. From what I understand, you can eat whatever you want but you have to stick within the list of core foods? Am I close here?
So I am really going to try to pre-plan this weekend so it doesn't get out of hand . We are hosting Easter dinner on Sunday and my sister in law is bringing down her TO DIE FOR, IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIST HOMEMADE DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CAKE!! So I am allowing my self to have my usually Friday night homemade pizza, and 1 piece of chocolate cake. It actually works out good that we are making dinner as I will be able to cook something pretty healthy. I'm not sure what though...any suggestions?

Breakfast:
1.5 cups of All Bran - 3
1/4 cup of skim milk - 0.5
1 granny smith apple - 1

Wasa Crackers and laughing cow Cheese light - 1
Total: 11.5

Exercise High

Last night, even though I was DREADING it, and even contemplated not doing it, I went for a good 45 min workout and afterwards...I felt fantastic. I was dragging all the way home and was just looking for an excuse not to go but I couldn't come up with one so I went home, put on my workout digs and got my butt in gear. After my workout, I felt so great, so in shape! I just love the high you get from working out and working up a good sweat. This week my goal is to get 4 lunch time 35 min walks in as well. I missed Monday due to a funeral but I am hoping to get in Tues-Fri. I figure it will definitely help with my Weigh in on Friday. It helps so much to have a walking partner at work too. I would definitely recommend it! There are quite a few days that I would have gladly lazed around my desk for a whole hour, but changed my mind because Sarah (my walking buddy) is all geared up to go for a walk. It's great to surround yourself with motivating & positive people, it just makes life easier.
So I am putting serious consideration into signing up for a 5k or 10k this summer. I think it will definitely give me motivation to start running again. I really enjoy running but have been off of it for a while since my knee was bothering me. Any runners have any advice? How long (timewise) is a 10 k run typically? (I know it varies from runner to runner) Maybe I should start off with a 5 K run and work my way up???

The picture to the right...in case you haven't guessed...is my motivation. Hubby and I and a bunch of friends are planning a trip down south for April 2008....and this is what I want to wear...It keeps me motivated. Not once in my entire life have I ever even considered even wearing a bikini but I figure it's now or never!

Breakfast:
1.5 cups of All Bran - 3
1/4 cup of skim milk - 0.5
1 granny smith apple - 1

100 calorie pack Smart Pop Popcorn - 1
1 Strawberry Chantilly yogurt - 1

Supper:
Tomato Soup (an old time favorite, haven't had it in months!) - 3
14 whole wheat crackers - 3
1 oz of low fat medium cheddar cheese - 2
Total: 20.5
Total Calories: 1185

Not entirely sure yet but tonight is my night off from working out so I am looking forward to going home and relaxing (after our meeting with a mortgage broker). Hopefully I get in a few more pages of "The Secret". Anyone else reading this one?!?

Lazy Weekend....Hectic Monday

Scott and I had a pretty relaxing weekend. We basically just did our own thing, wondered around uptown, visited a few shops and went the the market. We didn't have anything planned and we wanted to keep it that way. I did pretty decent on the food front but I feel like I could have done better. We had our standard homemade pizza Friday night and topped it off with a Dairy Queen Chocolate Ice Cream cone (7 pts and worth every single one). So I felt pretty ok about that. I did go a little overboard Saturday night (but stayed within my flex points) Plus we were walking around all afternoon so I figure it all works out. I had pretzels, and a Cadbury cream egg (DAMN those things!!!).
Today I am starting my experiment with counting calories. I think I will try it out for a few days just to see how many calories I am taking in. Based on my height and weight, I should be getting between 2000-2150 for maintenance and about 1500-1650 for weight loss. (Obviously I'm shooting for the latter!) So it should be interesting to keep track of it for a while and really see where most of my calories are coming from. Any other calorie counters have any tips for me?

In light of my calorie experiment, I came across this web page of What Does 200 Calories Look Like? Check it out. It's very interesting...

I've tried out a few of the 100 calorie pack snacks...and even though everyone RAVES about them...for the most part you don't get very much AT ALL for 2 WW pts! I haven't found one that I truly think is worth 2 pts (with the exception of the 100 Calorie Hostess Chocolate Cupcakes...they are to die for and only 1 pt!!) Has anyone found a 100 calorie pack that they can't live without....AND one that's worth 2 whole WW pts?!?!?

Here is an article I found on 100 Calorie Packs: 100-Calorie Snack Packs: Do They Help With Weight Loss?

Weigh In

Well my weigh in went good today. I stayed the same. No loss...but more importantly no gain! After last weekend's splurge I was relieved to see the same number as last week. For some reason though there was a little nagging feeling in the back of my head that said"oh crap! ...no loss" Even though I splurged I still kind of felt like I had lost just judging by my clothes and the way I felt. Well hopefully that just means that I'll knock it out of the park next week :)
No big plans this weekend. I think Scott and I are just taking it easy and having an 'us' weekend which we haven't had in a long time! So no big plans for my flex points this weekend. Hope everyone else did great on their weigh in! Have a good weekend everyone! Keep me posted!

Why do we have a weight problem?

I keep watching all of these weight loss shows on TV and talk shows with guests who have lost massive amounts of weight and one thing remains true through all of them......

There is apparently an underlying issue as to why people are overweight. Being overweight is not about food.

Is there always an underlying issue? How are you supposed to know what it is? It seems to all revert back to the childhood (according to the TV shows) What the heck happened in everyones childhood that sent them running to the fridge? My childhood was pretty decent....a few bumps and bruises, I fell down a lot but I always picked myself back up and I'm stronger for it. So why was I overweight? Why is anyone overweight? I just don't understand. I don't know.
I haven't really discovered why I was overweight and maybe I never will. I just loved food. I still love food. I love the taste of food, I enjoy eating food and I look forward to my next meal when I am done eating the food in front of me. Is this wrong? I especially love the taste of greasy really-bad-for-you food and I still can't tell you that after a whole year on WW and losing almost 60 lbs that if I had the choice between a fresh garden salad and a big greasy cheesy piece of Delissio pizza that I would ever pick the salad. If I had my choice, I'd eat chocolate for breakfast, pizza for lunch and nachos for supper. But I don't have a choice because I don't ever want to be overweight again. That's the Catch 22.
I guess the difference is, is that I have learned to control my portions and I have limited my intake of food that is high in fat and calories. I don't like it that I can't go out and eat pizza and chips every night but I accept the fact that if I want to feel good about my body and fit into that size 10, I can't have it. Period. And if I do slip up and have it, I have to drag my butt to the gym and work it off.
Anyway enough of my ramblings....on a brighter note, Sarah and I went for a walk on lunch so I got in 30 mins and I am definitely going tonight after work for at least 40 mins on the treadmill. It's my last chance workout before my big weigh in tomorrow!! Yikes! For some reason I feel like I am going to see a loss, just by the way I feel in my clothes. But I am not expecting ANYTHING after last weekend and if I see a gain, then so be it. It's my own darn fault.

Today's Menu:

Breakfast:
WW Bagel with 1 Tbsp of low fat cream cheese & 1 tsp of sugar free Smuckers - 3
(my last bagel........tear)
1 granny smith apple - 1

Lunch:
Veggie wrap with 1 light flatout wrap, zucchini, carrots, red onions, green peppers, spinach and hummus with a few drops of honey dijon low fat dressing - 2

Total: 7

Snack:
1 oz reduced fat cheddar - 2
7 Melba Rounds - 1
Caramel Chocolate Chip Rice Cake - 2

My Reasons....

Sometimes I think I get so wrapped up in the number on the scale and how many lbs I lost this week that I forget why I started the weight loss journey in the first place. So I'm trying to remind myself. It's hard to remember that the girl in the pictures from a year ago was even me. I feel like a completely different person. Here are my reasons for joining AND staying on WW:

  • I wanted to be able to cross my legs and not have to strain to keep them there
  • I was tired of wearing my jacket inside all the time to cover up my size
  • I always had to "dress up" to compensate for my size. I don't think I owned a pair of jeans all through high school or University
  • I wanted to be able to buy cute bras and undies and look hot in them.
  • I HATED being so much bigger than my husband, he always looked fit, even with 20 extra lbs on.
  • I hated looking at pictures of me and stayed away from a camera at all costs
  • I was tired of always trying to hide my weight from other people, I was always trying to fool them into thinking I was smaller than I really was
  • I hated shopping. The fact that I would walk into a store like Reitmans or Suzy Shier and I would be praying the whole time that I could squeeze into a 15/16 so that I could buy in the "regular" dept and not have to go to plus size.
  • I dreaded anything to do with summer, tank tops, shorts, skirts, you name it. I hated going camping because I just wanted to cover myself up but it was too hot! Going swimming wasn't even an option.
  • I was constantly worrying about what people thought of me and what people saw when they looked at me. I have gained so much confidence over the past year it is unbelievable!
  • I just wanted to be healthy and in shape and not have to worry about any health risks.
  • Before I have kids, I want to be an active person and I want to be ready to run after them.
  • Just once...just once I want to be able to wear a bikini (Dominican Republic Trip with Hubby and friends planned for April 2008)

I'm sure there are tons more but this is what I could think of now. My life has changed so much since Jan 2006 when I started WW. It's absolutely amazing! I have become a different person, more confident and sure of myself. Anyway enough of my ramblings. What are your reasons for wanting to lose weight? There are so many great ones!

I did get my butt in gear at lunchtime with Sarah and we went for a good 30-35 min walk up town (although it had to be inside, damn -19 weather) Tonight I am hitting up the upper body weights. Tomorrow I am hoping to get a 30 min walk in at lunch plus a 45 min cardio session tomorrow night just in time for my Friday morning Weigh in! Wish me luck (although I'm not hoping for much after my little rendezvous last weekend with the pizza and chocolate!)

Spring is coming!!!

Last night I made it to my workout and I was really glad that I did. When I was finished, I was really proud of myself for getting my still hungover butt over there to do it. I even came home and found the energy to make some homemade hummus (not like it's hard). My cravings for pizza and french fires and burgers are slowly subsiding, but I knew after doing so good all day yesterday, falling off the wagon is not even an option for me. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for this week's weigh in. I would even take a 0.1 loss and be ecstatic about it!
The sun is coming out as I am typing and it seems so much brighter...isn't it weird how the sun puts you in a better mood?!?!

Monday Monday.....

Every hour that passes that I don't go and binge on pizza, or chocolate or anything else is making me more and more confident! This morning I woke up and I was just CRAVING pizza again, or something else bad. But as the day goes on, I get a little stronger. I even got on my walkin shoes and took a good 35 min power walk at lunch and went and met my hubby at the market for a coffee, and it's -12 C out! I was trying to think up excuses about why I couldn't go for my workout tonight (weight training) and I came up with nothing, plus hubby gave me that extra push I needed. I know I'll feel SO MUCH better if I go....so I'm going, that's it, end of story.
So my product for today is Smucker's Sugar Free Jams. I always get the Strawberry because I LOVE strawberry jam. It is great on a WW bagel with some light cream cheese and the best part about it is it's only 10 calories for 1 Tbsp!! I usually top a bagel (2 points) with 1 Tbsp of low fat cream cheese + 1 tsp of Strawberry jam and it is YUMMY! the whole breakfast is only about 3 points, which is fantastic! So check it out when you get a chance. It's also great stirred in with Vanilla yogurt!
Last week I said I'd be counting my calories starting this week for a little experiment but honestly I just don't have the energy to do it today. I may start it up later in the week when I am back to my old self. Right now I'm just trying to keep my head above water. My diet buddy Sarah is in the same boat from the weekend so we have been complaining to each other basically all day about how we just want to eat our faces off....but we won't!
Today's Menu....
Breakfast:
WW Bagel - 2
1 Tbsp of low fat cream cheese - 0.5
1 tsp of Sugar Free Smucker's Jam - 0.5
1 granny smith apple - 1
Lunch:
Michaelina's Lifestyle Frozen Dinner - 5
Fettuccini with veggies and pesto.
Sugar Free Vanilla Caramel pudding cup - 1
100 Calorie Smart Pop Popcorn - 1
Total: 11
Supper:
Taco Night!!
1/2 cup lean hamburger and taco seasoning - 3.5
4 Old El Paso Taco Shells - 4
Tomatoes & Lettuce - 0
Old El Paso Spicy Salsa - 0
2 Tbsp of low fat sour cream - 1
Total: 19.5
I might have a light snack after supper but I doubt it since I will be going to workout right after work so that means I won't be eating supper until about 6:30 anyway. Hope everyone had a very Happy St. Patty's day!!!!

Wicked Wicked Weekend

I've been worrying about this post since Saturday night! After such a great success on Friday with my weight in, hubby and I went nuts this weekend. Nuts nuts nuts. I knew that this weekend was going to be hard for me because I could feel a splurge coming on. I felt like I had been doing so well and to my defense, I had all intentions of keeping within my bonus points this weekend and still be able to have a few drinks and relax. So I gave my self a good ol pep talk this morning and decided that today is a new day and I'm not going to let my poor decisions from the weekend throw me into a tailspin. I'm going to own up to it, deal with it, and move on. Today is a new day full of new decisions and I'm determined to jump back on the train. So this is me owning up to it:
It all started Friday. Hubby and I came home from work and we were both craving homemade pizza (which in case you haven't noticed has become a ritual for us) So I had pizza which completely filled me up...but that wasn't enough. Around 8:30pm I emptied a WHOLE bag of Crispy Minis. By Saturday morning I was trying to regain my optimism and stayed true for the entire day. We were over at Scott's cousins painting and crack filling most of the day since they just bought a new house. We had pasta for dinner and for the most part, we were doing pretty ok. Then came Saturday night. We had been invited to a St. Patty's Day party at Sarah and Jody's (Sarah is my fellow dieter at work, & my Calais buddy from last weekend) I did ok on Saturday night, snacked quite a bit but Sarah mostly had baked lays, pretzels and veggie trays for snacks so I was pretty thankful for that! We had a really great time and I discovered a new drink that I really liked (maybe a little too much!) Orange Vodka and Raspberry Crystal Light. Yum. I would post pictures of the party but I am finding it difficult to find a G rated picture (which obviously means it was a rockin party!) When I stumbled home at 3:30am, food was the last thing on my mind.
Then came Sunday. Sunday was the real kicker for me. I woke up feeling gross and sick of course and pretty much lazed around all day and didn't even think about food until about 2pm, when I decided that there was nothing else that I could possibly eat in the entire world besides pepperoni Delicisio pizza (of which I ate half of). I did seriously think about making something really healthy for lunch but the thought of a veggie wrap was just not cutting it for me. The pizza satisfied me until about 7pm when I decided I would gladly give my right arm for a piece of chocolate. Scott went down to the store (alone, another bad idea but I couldn't bring myself to leave the couch) and he came back with the following:

1 Caramel/chocolate/ice cream drumstick

1 Reese's Peanut Butter Ice Cream bar

2 Bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs

1 Cadbury Peanut butter and chcolate cream egg

1 Cadbury original cream egg
We split it up in half and to my defense, Scott ate all of his and then I saved mine and shared most of it with him so I didn't end up eating TOO much (but WAY MORE than I should have, and I LOVED every single bite too.) Ahh well...I'm just going to chalk it up to experience. But I'm over it and now I am moving on. I am just hoping that I don't see a gain on Friday but I wouldn't be surprised if I did. Hopefully I can see the same number as last week at least.
Well there it is, my food confession.
Today I am back on the wagon and I know after a day or two I will feel back in control again.
How was everyone's weekend?

Calorie Counting Experiment

I think I've decided to try a little experiment starting Monday. I have been so oblivious as to how many calories I take in per day, I thought it may make me more aware if I spend a week calculating my daily calorie intake. I figure it might open my eyes a little and help me on my little weight loss journey! So starting Monday, I'm counting the good ol calories (also counting my WW points of course!!) I found a great program on SparkPeople.com that helps you to add up all your calories, carbs, protein etc. It also lets you know how much of these things you should be getting in the run of a day. I will let you know my findings!
So my product of the day is Laughing Cow Cheese Light I tried it the other night on a few Wasa crackers. I'll admit that I didn't give it much of a chance since I wasn't really feeling too great and wasn't really in the mood for cheese, I just ate it for something to eat (SUCH a bad idea!!). I did love the texture of it but I found that it was a little lacking in the flavor area. BUT I'm going to give it another chance and maybe I should have something else with it like sugar free jam or something? There are also different flavors like Herb and Garlic but I didn't find them in Calais. Has anyone else tried this product?? Gimme some ideas if you've got em! Maybe if the Wasa's had a little more flavor themselves? I bet it would be great on Garden Vegetable Melba Rounds......hmmmm.
So this weekend I have been planning different ways to keep the points to a minimum even though we are going to be out celebrating St. Patricks Day, I am still trying to pre-plan and make healthy decisions. This is what I've come up with so far: Instead of coolers or high calorie drinks, I'll be sipping away on Tangerine Vodka and Raspberry Crystal Light (new creation...haven't tried it before but it sounds yummy). And any muchies for the night will be low fat (but of course I'm going to try not to munch at all!!) Tomorrow's weigh in will be the determining factor as to how much 'fun' I'll allow myself to have this weekend. Wish me luck ladies!!
Breakfast:
WW Bagel - 2
1 Tbsp of Low fat cream cheese - 0.5
1 tsp of Smucker Sugar Free Jam - 0.5
1 granny smith apple - 1
Lunch:
1 Peanut Butter (low fat variety) & Banana sandwich on WW bread - 3
100 Calorie Hostess Chocolate cupcakes - 1
1.5 cups of baby carrots - 0
Peanut Butter Fiber One Bar - 2.5
Total: 10.5
Supper:
Vegetable Stew (May by hubby's Mom) It's soooo gooood!!! - 8
Filled with Carrots, Cabbage, turnip, potatoes, onions and stew meat. I cut out the stew meat altogether and piled up on the onions, cabbage, carrots, and turnip. I limited the potatoes so the points would remain decently low. I forgot how much I love stew so I am picking up the fixins and may possibly try my own out this week.
Daily points target: 22
Daily points used: 18.5
I tried to use more but by the time I worked out, got some groceries and settled down it was 8:30 and tomorrow is weigh in day so I REFUSED (it was hard) to eat anything after 7.
I also got in an awesome 45 mins of intense cardio!! I feel great!!
Flex points remaining: 35

Happy Hump Day

No matter how much you pre-plan and pre-plan, things always come up. You can pre-plan until your blue in the face but it's inevitable; Parties, holidays, work lunches, birthdays & numerous celebrations are bound to happen. Just because we are on Weight Watchers and trying to be sooo good, doesn't mean that Easter isn't coming this year. Too bad eh?? We are constantly bombarded with chocolate Easter eggs or giant chocolate Santa's, marshmallow bunnies, mini Halloween treats, gingerbread men, Grandma's Christmas baking, Thanksgiving turkey and pumpkin pie....and these are just to name a few!!! And on top it all off, all of these events come fully loaded with high calorie alcoholic drinks! How are we ever supposed to survive, let alone lose weight?!?
There, I think I got it all out. It just seems as though there are so many occasions around the corner that may cause me to falter. St. Patrick's day is this weekend (which usually wouldn't tempt me but we've decided to go out and celebrate this year). On top of that my Birthday is April 3 (and what's a birthday without cake?!?!?!) and then Easter falls on April 8/07 and we have a few dinners to go to with family. I guess all we can do is take it one event at a time and make healthy choices at each meal. Sometimes it is a lot better to take it one day at a time rather than try to figure out the big picture. But it can be done, I just need to resist those darn delicious Cadbury Mini Eggs and cream eggs, walk right by the Reese's Peanut butter and Chocolate filled Easter bunnies and go home and have a great low calorie snack!! But it's not easy, it's often very hard but here are a few little snacks that help me get by when the going gets tough. They may make it seem like you are cheating...but the calories just don't add up!

  • Cadbury Thins (I would be lost without these!)
  • Quaker Caramel Chocolate Chip Rice Cakes
  • Rold Gold Pretzels
  • Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop popcorn (100 Calorie packs)
  • Jello (any flavor as long as it's fat free!) & a dollop of fat free whipped cream)
  • Wasa Crackers and cheese
  • baby carrots (with fat free honey dijon dressing)
  • 100 Calorie Packs (Hostess are my favorite!!)
  • fat free pudding cups (mmmm Vanilla Caramel)
  • homemade fruity shakes

But to be positive, nothing feels better than a pound gone forever, and you can't beat the high you get when you finish a great workout!! So I guess we just have to hang in there and make each day a day of healthy choices and great successes!

Got any tips or tricks for getting through holidays? Any great low fat party recipes? Leave me a comment!

Pumped for some cardio

Today I feel totally rested and totally pumped to get in some cardio after work. Last night I did some upper body strength training and I increased my weights and wow I can really feel it today! Working out just gives me great energy and I always find that I sleep better on nights that I get in a good workout. The benefits are endless!
Today is my cardio day so I am hoping to get in at least 45 mins of running/walking. I may also split it up and add 10 mins of cycling and 10 mins of the stepper (aka 'the devil'). I usually just wing it once I get there but I always make sure I get in 45 mins of cardio. I would love to get an elliptical when hubby and I buy our house (hopefully in 2-3 months!!!). I tried one out at the YMCA and I loved it!! The only downfall was that it agitated my knee a little. Pretty much the same tightness I get when I am running. I did hear that the elliptical with the moving arms tends to be better on the knees. Anyone have any experience with this? I would love to get some info.

Ok...so we need to talk about the Fiber One bars. They are HANDS DOWN the best granola bars out there. I would even dare say that are better than many chocolate bars out there. The Peanut Butter ones have to be my favorite, but they also come in Oats and Chocolate as well (also really yummy!). They are jam packed with peanut butter chips, granola and ooey gooey goodness. I just can't get enough of them. They are also jam packed with Fiber.....9 grams per bar!!! So run out and grab some if you can. I haven't really scouted out many Canadian grocery stores but I picked these up in Calais, Maine and I will definitely be going down again to stock up on these babies!

Breakfast:
1 WW Bagel 2
1 Tbsp of low fat cream cheese 0.5
1 Tsp of Smuckers Sugar Free Strawberry Jam 0.5
1 granny smith apple 1

Lunch:
Veggie wrap including:
1 Italian Herb Flatout Wrap, zucchini, shredded carrot, spinach, green peppers, red onions, hummus and fat free honey dijon dressing (something a little different today!) 3
1 hostess 100 cal pack 1
Oats and Peanut Butter Fiber One bar 2.5
1.5 cups of baby carrots 0
Total: 10.5

Supper:
Mini Pizzas made with WW English Muffins, Hormel turkey pepperoni and low fat cheddar cheese. 6
Wasa Crackers and Laughing Cow cheese Light 2
1 Sugar Free Jello Pudding Cup 1

Just another Manic Monday

I always feel like Mondays are my days for regaining control. Not that I was out of control last weekend but I always seem to be more lenient on the weekend and Mon-Fri are sort of my strict days. After getting very little sleep last night and having that awful time change, I'm super tired today and had to really push myself this morning to get out of bed.

When I woke up I had decided to throw caution to the wind and have a WW Bagel for breakfast and I was WAY too tired to make lunch so I was settled on taking a frozen dinner (the white pasta high carb kind) Then I thought about those high carb foods, and how they may affect my weight loss and changed my mind. I got my butt in gear and sliced up some Cantaloupe and yogurt for breakfast and cut up some veggies to have a wrap for lunch. I am actually quite proud of myself but hopefully in the future I will be pre-planning a little more to avoid more bad decisions.
The Flat out Wraps are delicious!! They are only 1 point AND they only have 16 grams of carbs (compared to Demspter's which have 26 g of carbs). Last night I topped the Italian Herb kind with pizza sauce, some low fat cheddar and turkey pepperoni and it was great! And so much lower in points that regular pizza dough!

Today for lunch, I packed one wrap up with spinach, zucchini slices, shredded carrot, green peppers, and red onions and of course I added a little hummus and some fat free Italian Dressing. It was out of this world good! As far as wraps go, I would definitely give this one a 10!! I would make the drive back down to Calais JUST for these wraps! They are even better in a veggie wrap then for mini pizzas. There are sooo many great things you could make with them.

Breakfast:
1 cup Cantaloupe 1
1 Fat free Raspberry/Vanilla Yogurt 1
I granny smith apple 1

Lunch:
Veggie wrap including:
Italian Herb Flat Out Wrap with carrots, zucchini, spinach, green peppers, red onions, hummus and Fat Free Italian Dressing. (All this for only 2 points!!!!!! & it was SO GOOD!!!) 2
Fiber One Peanut Butter and Oats Bar 2
1 cup baby carrots 0
Hostess 1 calorie pack (yumola!) 1
3 pink peppermints 1
(Hummus is a real breath killer)
Total: 9

Supper:
85 g Whole Wheat Flax Omega Pasta 5
2 tsp of Basil Pesto 3
Fried Veggies: green peppers, onions, tomatoes, spinach
1 tsp of low fat Parmesan cheese 0.5
1.5 cups of brussel sprouts
1 cup of baby carrots 0
Total: 17.5

Snack:
Banana Shake:
1/2 Banana
Low Fat Whipped Cream
1/2 cup of skim milk

(I tried a little experiment tonight by adding a little bit of cocoa to my Banana shake...bad idea. In Theory it would be a great chocolately Bananey creation...in reality it was bitter and chalky. You live you learn!!)

Daily points target: 22
Daily Points Used: 21.5

Flex Points Remaining: 35 These are basically all reserved this week for St. Patricks day (planning on having a few drinks, maybe even more than a few...who knows!)

Rainy Sunday

Yesterday was a success in Calais and we found so many great new products that aren't available up here in Canada. I think I am going to have to make a trip down every 6 weeks or so to stock up on all my findings! I haven't really had a chance to try very many of them but I will keep you updated as soon as I do.

One product that I couldn't wait to try (I think I had the box and wrapper open about 30 seconds after I walked in the door) is Hostess 100 Calorie Pack Chocolate cupcakes. These are UNBELIEVABLE! I only bought the chocolate but they also come in Carrot Cake and Yellow cake with chocolate frosting (these kinds are both 2 points/pack) However the chocolate variety (which are rumoured to be the best out of the 3) are ONLY1 point/pack!!!! 1 POINT!! They are moist & Yummy but the only downfall is that it is SO hard to stop at just 1 pack! (ok...I admit it...I had 2 last night!!!) But if you can restrain yourself enough to enjoy them sporadically, they are definitely worth and 1.5 hour trip to Calais AND the 1 hour wait in the line up to get across the border!!!

Here is a list of great things we picked up in Calais, Maine.

Laughing Cow Cheese Light Wedges
Only 35 calories per serving!

Quaker Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Rice Cakes
These sound so promising...who doesn't love peanut butter and chocolate together for only 60 calories??

Jello Sugar Free Reduced Calorie Pudding cups
French Vanilla topped with Caramel
Mochachinno & chocolate

Light Flatout Wraps
Italian Herb
Sundried Tomato
Original
I am trying these tonight...making pizza out of them. They are only 90 Calories for a LARGE wrap and they have 9 g of fibre soo......they are 1 POINT!!!!

Weight Watchers Bagels and English Muffins
The Bagels are only 2 points (and YES they are full sized bagels!)
English muffins are only 1 point and would make a great mini pizza!

Fiber One Chewy Bars
Oats and Chocolate
Oats & Peanut Butter

Hormel Turkey Pepperoni
Only 80 calories for 17 thin slices of this stuff! Can't wait to try it!!

Hannaford Fat Free Refried Beans
Thought these would be great for a Quesadilla or I may experiment with some sort of low fat burrito!

That's all I can think of right at the moment but I will be posting about each separate item as I try them. I also grabbed a few other things life Caramel French Vanilla flavored coffee and a few other knick knacks.

Yesterday I did really good food wise considering I was surrounded by food in a grocery store for most of the day! I ate a light lunch before I left for Calais and brought an apple and a rice cake with me to snack on. For supper, a friend and I went to Subway and I had the Roast Chicken Wrap with veggies and Sweet Onion sauce (if you haven't tried it, drop everything and get to Subway right now to do so!!!) It was delicious!

My travel buddy and I also discovered a new low fat java creation. (Actually she discovered it but I am willing to take full credit). We stopped at the Irving and filled our cups with 1/2 Fat Free French Vanilla Cappachino and 1/2 Hazlenut Vanilla Coffee and added 1 Sugar Twin. It was great!!! Just like having a French Vanilla form Timmy's (only this was better in my opinion, and WAY less fat and calories!)

Today's rundown...

Breakfast:
1 Weight Watcher Bagel 2
1 Tbsp of light Cream Cheese 0.5
1 tsp of Smuckers Sugar Free Strawberry Jam 0.5

Lunch:
1 Apple 1
Jello Sugar Free French Vanilla & Caramel Cup 1
This was so delicious!!! It's almost like having a really rich and decadent dessert without all those nasty calories. I would definitely recommend these!!

Supper:
Mini Pizzas made with:
1 Flatout Wrap (Italian Herb flavor)
2 Tbsp of Pizza sauce
1 oz low fat cheddar cheese
Hormel Turkey Pepperoni
All this for only 4 points!!
I had two of these and added some extra cheese and pepperoni to the second one so I am estimating the points to be about 9 for both of them. But it was very filling!
Total: 14

Snack:
1/2 Banana 1
5 Tbsp of Light Whipped Cream 1
1 fat free french vanilla yogurt 1
1/2 cup of skim milk 1
Total: 18

I also did a little snacking as I was making supper so I accounted for that as well in my daily points used!
Hope everyone had a safe and happy weekend!!!

Friday, March 9, 2007

It's Friday and not a moment too soon.

Weigh in was great! I was down 1.4 lbs from last week which is great but I am having so much trouble with my WW Digital scale. Every time I get on it, it says a different number, which is frustrating because the number seems to climb up 0.2 or so every time you get on it. Does anyone else have this trouble? I thought these digital scales were supposed to be accurate?!
Well I won't let it discourage me and I'm definitely going to enjoy my 1.4 loss from last week (but it's really hard to FULLY enjoy it when your not entirely sure of the loss because of technical difficulties!) & for the price that they charge for the scale....it should be losing the weight for me!
So tonight my husband and I are planning on making a homemade pizza, it's definitely the highlight of my night tonight. (yup, pizza has become a major excitement in my life) I am also going to get a weight training session in right after work.
Tomorrow morning I am going to get in 45 mins of cardio before I leave for my big trip to the States (I'm sure I will get lots of exercise shopping too!) I can't wait to post my big finds!
Today I have a major craving for SWEETS! My Sweet tooth is screaming today! Maybe because it's Friday and I usually save my bonus points up for a treat. I'm thinking of picking up a Cadbury Thin on the way home tonight and cuddling up with hubby for a movie night.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Today's Menu

Breakfast:
1 cup fresh pineapple 1
1/2 cup fat free vanilla yogurt 1
1 granny smith apple 1
(An apple a day keeps the Doctor away!)

Lunch:
Leftover Stir Fry and brown rice 4
I chocolate caramel rice cake 1
100 calorie Smart Pop snack pack 1
Total: 9

Supper:
Homemade Pizza 20
(for half the pizza....really large portion!!)

Movie Snack:
Cadbury Thin (Toffee) 2
Maybe a few pretzels???

Total: 31 (or more depending on if I can control my sweet tooth)

Back in the game...

Today I feel even more pumped than I did yesterday!! It just goes to show that a few great days can really make you feel like you are back in the driver's seat! I am trying out a few new things this week to try to get over my plateau and back in the game. I started studying my journals and really picking them apart to see what has been going on lately. I have been losing NO weight at all and it seems I've been stuck here forever. Then I looked at my journal and saw some major problems! I have been eating massive amounts of pasta and other high carb foods! I was having pasta for both lunch and dinner and thinking nothing of it. I was also eating things like english muffins and tons of flatbreads (sometimes even 3 in a day!). I know that these aren't necessarily 'bad' foods but when you eat too much of them, they can prevent you from having a nice little weight loss! I am going to try to limit my intake of these carby foods.

I also realized that I have basically been eating the same thing over and over every week....so I wonder. Does eating the same foods every week = Remaining the same weight every week????
So This week I am trying to incorporate some more veggies into my meal plan and drink more water, I'm also going to cut myself off from eating after 7 since those nighttime munchies have been known to get the best of me. I am also going to mix up breakfast a little (If you've noticed, I usually eat All Bran EVERY morning) but I'm going to change it to ever other morning, or every third morning and see if this helps out. I'm just going to generally spice things up a little!
Weigh in is tomorrow.......

Today's Lowdown...

Breakfast:
1.5 c. All Bran 3
1/4 c. milk 0.5
1 granny smith apple 1

Lunch:
Veggie Wrap including:
Dempster's Large Flatbread 3
cucumbers, carrots, spinach, mushrooms, red onions, and green peppers 0
2 Tbsp of Hummus 1
1 Tbsp of Fat Free Italian Dressing 0
This was unbelievable...just like out of a restaurant!! Only 4 points, and very filling!
1 fat free Vanilla yogurt 1
1.5 cups of baby carrots 0
Total: 9.5

Dinner:
Scott's Famous Stir Fry including:
Broccoli, green peppers, Spanish onions, snow peas, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini 4
Hoisen Sauce, chili paste, soy sauce.
3/4 c. brown rice 3

Snack:
1 c fresh pinapple with 1/2 cup fat free vanilla yogurt 1.5

Quaker Caramel Chocolate Chip rice Cakes 1
These are great little 1 point snack and are great if you are craving something sweet with a good crunch. They only contain about 60 calories per cake (depending on the flavor). In Canada, my favorite is Caramel Chocolate chip but I see in the States they have Peanut Butter Chocolate chip...so there could be some competition when I get back from the States this weekend.

But you have to be careful...it's hard to stop at just one.

Wish me luck with my weigh in!

I Heart Hummus!!!

So Last night right after supper, I jumped on to my hummus experiment and I made a life altering discovery...I LOVE HUMMUS! It is absolutely delicious. There are tons of recipes out there for Hummus but this is the one that I used and next time I will definitely be experimenting with more ingredients.

1 15oz can of chic peas rinsed and drained
2-3 Tbsp of Lemon juice
1 Tbsp of light Soy Sauce
2-3 cloves of garlic

Toss it all in a food processor and voila! You've got hummus! I tried it with Melba Rounds last night and couldn't believe how much I loved it. It is about 7 points for the whole batch but it makes quite a bit! I would recommend keeping the liquid from the chic peas to use as a thinning agent. The recipe also called for roasted red peppers but I didn't have any on hand and it still turned out fantastic! Many recipes call for oil but it adds so much fat and calories that really just aren't necessary in my opinion.

I'm going to try it out on a few different things. Today for lunch I put it on a veggie wrap (which was absolutely amazing!!) but I may also experiment with a chicken/tomato/Parmesan/spinach/hummus wrap. I recently found a great flatbread that is decently low in points. Dempster's Flatbreads of the World Plain Large wraps. They are 3 points but they are huge and you can make a really large wrap from them. As compared to the Old El Paso wraps, which are 2 points per small wrap (VERY small). Since I'm not a hug fan of whole wheat wraps, Dempster's gets the medal from me.

Here is today's menu...

Breakfast:
1/2 c. fat free vanilla yogurt 1
1c of grapes 1
1 granny smith apple 1

Lunch:
Dempster's Large Plain wrap 3

2 Tbsp of Hummus 1
I fat free vanilla yogurt 1

Well that's it for me tonight! Only a few more days until my trip to the States, I can't wait to post my finds!

Oh and I am up to #60 on my list of 100 Things About ME!
