A Not-so-great weekend

Ugh. I've been dreading this post but it's time to come clean right? I can't put it off any longer!

Friday night with the girls was a blast but after 4 Margaritas, a glass of red wine, too many multigrain tostitos to count, guacamole and lemon/dill chip dip....I felt awful on Saturday morning. On top of all that, I had to go and give a presentation for work on Saturday afternoon. I started out great and had my usual breaky of All Bran, milk, & V8 juice. By the time I got out of bed and on the road, I didn't even have time for lunch. Of course lunch was provided at the presentation so I grabbed a turkey sandwich and a marshmallow square. That didn't fill me up for long and hubby and I had fajitas for dinner which really weren't too bad. Decent and point friendly. Then came the movies........It's going to be hard to type this one. I had that awful "I already messed up, may as well go all the way" mentality. 1 Mars Bar about 10 Nachos and Cheese, about 20 giant swedish berries and 1 large diet coke later.....I REALLY felt awful. Seriously I thought I was going to be sick.

Did that stop me on Sunday???

Again, morning started out great. Regular breakfast and a tuna sandwich for lunch. Doing good...until the dreaded birthday party for my niece. What are they serving? Pizza! My ultimate trigger food. 2 slices later and a large portion of ceasar salad, I felt stuffed and bloated. Did that keep me away from the birthday cake? NO!
Wow when I type it all out, it sounds so disastrous doesn't it? But when you span it out over 3 days, it's so easy to justify isn't it? I knew I did bad and I was anxiously awaiting Monday morning so I could start the week fresh again.
On a bright note, after coming home from the birthday party around 7:00 on Sunday, I decided I felt too full and I couldn't wait until Monday to do something about it so I threw in Billy Blanks Tae Bo for a good 40 min workout. I loved it and it was over before I knew it. Hubby did it with me and we were both sweating up a storm by the end of it!
So yesterday I was back on track and feeling much better. Except for the awful Root Canal I had to get first thing yesterday morning in the middle of a blizzard. On top of that, the anesthetic kept wearing off so I was in excruciating pain. She couldn't finish it and had to refer me to a specialist. There was one part of the nerve that would not freeze, she even put the needle right in the nerve but it still didn't help. Tears were literally rolling down my face. At least my dentist is super nice and she felt awful about the pain. So I have to go a specialist to get it completed. NOT looking forward to that let me tell you. so I left work early yesterday since I couldn't concentrate for more than 10 seconds. The pain was ridiculous and lasted pretty much until supper time. So I didn't eat a thing until around 5:00pm. Nothing. You know the pain is bad when I miss a meal! I haven't missed a meal since like High School when I had the flu!
Anyway so I didn't get to the gym yesterday either which I feel awful about. Today I have physio after work for some trouble I'm having with my back so I'm heading to the gym at lunch for 40 mins cardio. I dont' want to fall behind on my exercise so I'm hoping to throw in my tae bo video some night this week and catch up.
How was eveyones weekend? Hope you all stayed OP unlike myself.

  1. Well, I think in the end it wasn't SO disastrous!!! You picked yourself up and worked your butt off!!!! I think that is impressive!

That is horrible about your root canal!! I have to have one redone RIGHT before valentines day...yucky...but I have had so many fillings/root canals/extractions at this point that I don't really get bothered any more but I HATE the freezing!

  2. I always try to look back on that kind of eating and see what I can learn from it so I can have a different outcome the next time I'm in similar circumstances. That kind of weekend is real life and we need to learn how to handle it if we're going to be successful. Maybe beginning with...oh, I don't know...the alcohol? lol

Root canals are the worst!!! Good luck.

  3. Ummmm, it's sounds like you had a lot of fun this weekend! LOL

We all have times like that. The really great part is that you felt gross and decided to work out. You could have just curled up on the couch and ignored that feeling!

You will do awesome at those last few pounds girl. And I agree with Kathy. Maybe you can blame the whole fiasco on the alcohol?!

Hope your tooth is better soon. i've never had any thing like that. Of course I haven't been to the dentist in a LONG time either!

  4. Wow... hearing about your dental pain is making me cringe - that really is awful.

And... the eating doesn't sound too bad. I mean, two slices of pizza is a lot less than I would want to eat!

  5. We all have weekends where we eat terrible, Its just called life. But the important thing is you get back on track on Monday, and try to identify what you could've done better, it's called life, and I think your doing great about it.

  6. dude, that wasn't too bad at all. I almost laughed at your mars bar and 10 nachos and 20 berries and a diet coke. That's like nothing. Get over it. Good job on the extra exercise.

I feel so bad about your teeth. Umm maybe it will affect your appetite? no more sweets for you? (trying to find the positive)

  7. Oksy girl, you are much more experienced and kick as successful to let these weekends continue to get you down. Take charge time! Sounds like you got a lifestyle of fun friends and good times that makes it extra hard to avoid the drinks and snacky food that always go along with it. That's a tough thing to pass up on for sure.

Multi-grain Tostitos or like my FAVOURITE chip nowadays and boy it's hard to pass up on those....and same for me with pizza too.

Keep up the gym routine like you are - although I'd accept a root canal excuse for a day off definitely!

  8. *sigh* OMG I can totally empathize with your root canal pain.
When I had mine done, I hadn't ever felt as much pain as I did getting it done.. and I've had 3rd degree burns...
Hopefully you have better luck with the specialist!

  10. Well, weekends are sometimes tough. Especially when you have had a great week right up until Friday evening. I think what really gets us is the "screw it" mentality when we have not met up to our own expectations. Truly, Carolyn, that's the time when we have to step back, look at what we have accomplished and say, even though it may be hard, "I am worth it." I know that sometimes I have a hard time justifying that to myself. You are doing a great job and should be proud of yourself. Hang in there. By the way, my DH had to go to a specialist for a root canal and he came through it with flying colors. If that's any relief.

  13. So sorry to hear about the root canal - that sounds terrible! You are probably going to be in pain until you can get it fixed, poor thing! :(

I think alot of us had a bad weekend. I failed considerably, but it is a new week, and with it, a new weekend! We should all vow to make this the best weekend ever!

And on a side note, isn't the tae bo awesome? I love tae bo!! :)

  14. Hii dear.. here is the recipe for you! I made it in my mixer, not by hand... basically I just dissolved the yeast in water, then added the rest of the stuff.. and used the dough hook to kned until it clung to the hook.

    Ingredients:
    Crust
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 Tbsps flax meal or ground flax seeds
    1 x envelopes (8 g or 21/4 tsp) Fleischmann’s quick-rising yeast
    1/2 tsp salt
    2/3 cup very warm water
    2 teaspoons olive oil
    2 teaspoons liquid honey
    1 tbsp cornmeal
    Olive oil cooking spray

    Directions:

Make crust: in a medium bowl, combine both flours, flax meal, yeast and salt. Mix well.
Measure warm water in measuring cup, then stir in olive oil and honey. Pour mixture over dry ingredients and mix using a wooden spoon to form a ball. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 2 minutes.
Spray another medium bowl with olive oil spray and place dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, spray a 12-inch pizza pan with olive oil spray and dust with cornmeal. Preheat oven to 425ºF.

When dough has risen, turn out onto a lightly floured surface and, using a rolling pin, roll dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer dough to prepared pizza pan.

  15. it happens - you're out with girlfriends and you get carried away and then its like "well, whats a little bit or a lotta bit more!" i've definitely been there. get back on track now and i'm sure you will feel better by the weekend.

one thing i've kind of had to do is cut back on my social outings. not to an extreme but i don't go with my friends to get drinks anymore, it never leads down the right path and i figure if i can cut that out for a month or two and see some losses, i can add it back in moderation. i haven't had any wine/beer or anything since jan. 2nd and not only do i feel better but my belly looks flatter, and i feel less bloated from water weight. just a thought! :)

how has the gym been going this week? you kicked butt last week and totally motivated me!
