So last night Scott and I hit up a Body Sculpt class last night and to our surprise it was actually quite fun and it was really nice to be able to workout together. Usually when we go to the gym, I immediately go to the cardio machines and Scott goes to the weight section so we are separated the whole time but this class was great for both of us since he could do the more intense weights and exercises and I could use the lower weights since I'm just starting out on my strength training journey. For the past few months I have been cardio only. I know that strength training is important and I need to do it but honestly, I find it kind of boring and maybe a little intimidating. The weight area at my gym is full of big muscular guys and I wouldn't even know the first thing about using any of the machines! But then I discovered that they have strength training classes at my gym Mon-Friday at 5:00. So my new plan is to go to 2 strength training classes Monday and Wednesday (Body Sculpt and Body Ball) and on Tuesday and Thursday I will do 45 mins of cardio on the machines. On the weekends I usually stay pretty active and since I live about 25 mins from the gym, I usually get my exercise from working around the house, walks, yard work etc. You know the drill. I think this new plan would work out good for me. Any other suggestions ladies??
So I decided to jump on the scale today and face the music. I overindulged on the weekend, I had a little too much ice cream and too much chocolate on top of that. I honestly didn't FEEL like I gained any weight at all so I thought I may as well face the music this morning, get on the scale and see what the evil thing has in store for me. To my utter shock and pleasant surprise....I'm exactly the same as my WI last Friday not an ounce more or less! I couldn't believe my eyes and even got Scott to come in and look at the scale to make sure my eyes hadn't failed me. This morning's run-in with the scale has only given me more motivation to crank it up a notch this week and see a loss on Friday (which I really didn't think was possible before this morning!) I'm hoping for one pound, or even half a pound. I'm back down to my comfort zone now and about 5 lbs from the lowest I've ever been ( I still can't believe I put on almost 10 lbs over the summer!) What was I thinking?!?! Obviously, I wasn't.
On Tap for me tonight:
Gym right after work for 45 mins of cardio
Home to make up some yummy BLTs with my chicken bacon (I didn't get to have them last night as I was craving WW pasta)
Checking out new recipes to try
Happy Tuesday Ladies!

I'm so glad you got on the scale to see it the SAME! That is so great. I'll bet you see a loss this Friday!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad you liked that class. That has got to be fun doing it with Scott. I am enjoying walking so much more now that I am going with my neighbor. We talk the whole time and it just goes really fast.
Yay for sculpt class! Be warned however, that you may see the scale doing wonky things now that you start strength training. Instead of just losing fat, you're going to be building muscle and reorganizing how your body uses the food it gets. It stores when you think it shouldn't, puts things in places they never were. Just be warned. I think it takes about a month before your body understands that this is happening and it's ok, it can still drop weight. But it's totally worth it! No more skinnyfat for you!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get C to attend a class with me!
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute, he has tried to become a runner so that he can run with me, but he doesn't love it like I do. Walks will have to suffice.
Anyway, congrats on a no-gain weekend, especially when it was full of indulgences! Yippee!
congratulations!! you can totally do it :) i think the body sculpting classes are a great idea. i need to start that up. they offer those at my gym at work, i've been shy to try them but i think i'm going to go for it. they offer body sculpt, spinning, pilates, core scupt....so i'm going to try!! you've totally motivated me.
ReplyDeleteand yummy for the blts...those sound good. do you like turkey bacon? i do. i've never had chicken bacon though. i'll need to pick that up.
Good for you! Body sculpt sounds like fun, but I have to echo what randi said about the scale doing wonky things) In fact, you may want to take measurements just in case.
ReplyDelete(and yo Kelly, they offer spinning? DO IT!)
Wow girl, you have got the exercise regime down to a "T" definiately! You have an ideal regime set for yourself that's going to alternate cardio and strength. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI try not to be surprised when I step on the scale and it's not showing me the results I deserve...good or bad...but you just never know what it's going to do. Plus, I also think that we are harder on ourselves for eating this or that when it's not as bad as we really think.
RYC: Although I've been publicly announcing I'm 5' 4 1/2" all of my adult life, my Scott measured me and I'm only 5' 4" - I don't know what I hang onto that 1/2 inch! Maybe it "allows" me to have an extra pound or two and still "qualify" as a healthy weight according to WW and the cookie cutter standards. But back when I was 270, I had a body comp assessment done with a trainer and the results indicated that a "good" weight for me would be 170-180! I was surprisingly happy to hear that because it seemed "doable" for me. I reached that goal and I can tell I can lose a bit more and it wouldn't render me skin and bones, so I'm working toward 150. But like I said, when my body stops losing for a long period of time, then I know that I'm there.
So glad that your indulgence over the weekend didn't come back to smack you at the scale.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your class.
Hugs, Mel
